Source-of-funds evidence needs to trace the money, not just confirm the client has it. Bank statements alone are rarely sufficient for large or unusual sums — pair them with the underlying event: a sale contract for a previous property, a P60 or payslips for savings, or a gift letter plus the donor’s own source-of-funds evidence for deposits from family.
Flag and escalate early where the explanation doesn’t match the amount, or where funds arrive from a third party not previously disclosed.
